It’s more than just a school; it’s a story of belief. Peace and Hope Academy is quickly becoming a household name—the kind of place where you can genuinely feel Rwanda’s future being shaped, one child at a time. What started small has blossomed into a bustling, trusted hub of quality learning, all thanks to a clear vision, relentless dedication, and the faith of the families they serve.

If you ask the Director, Nyandwi Aphrodis, he’ll tell you the journey has been nothing short of remarkable. With a mix of pride and humility, he recounted his time at the institution:

“I first walked through these doors in 2018. That feels like a lifetime ago, eight years now. Back then, we had just 97 students. Look around today: we have grown to 386,” he shared. “That leap isn’t just about numbers for us; it’s a solid measure of the confidence parents have in what we do. It proves the quality education we deliver is speaking for itself.”

That huge jump in enrollment is the community’s vote of confidence. From nursery all the way up to Primary Six, the school’s commitment to nurturing young minds is absolute, supported by a tireless team of 15 fully qualified teachers focused on holistic growth.

When it comes to results, the academy’s record is stunning. They have celebrated three graduating classes so far, and every single student earned a perfect  pass rate. This incredible consistency doesn’t just build credibility; it sets a standard for academic excellence across the region.

Nyandwi is radiating optimism for the future cohorts: “In all our graduating classes, not a single student has ever failed. We have every confidence that the students preparing to leave us now will also succeed completely and secure their spots in top secondary schools. They are well-prepared, inside and out.”

The secret sauce to the school’s success extends well beyond the classroom. It’s deeply rooted in an exceptional partnership with parents. This collaboration is why their students are not only disciplined but confident and truly well-rounded.

“The strong collaboration with our parents is one of the most encouraging things we have,” Nyandwi affirmed. “They continuously work closely with us to ensure the best outcomes for their children. We are truly focused on what benefits the future of these children, together.”

Peace and Hope Academy is certainly not resting on its laurels. The leadership is already looking ahead with ambitious plans to break ground on a modern, multi-story school building. This new facility will feature essential resources like a dedicated library and a computer laboratory.

Expected to be completed within the next two years, the expansion will solve the issue of overcrowding, especially in Primary One and Primary Four, accommodating the ever-growing student body.

The Founder of Peace and Hope Academy, Mr. Albert Musabyimana, assured parents that the management will do everything possible for the learners to receive quality education in quality facilities.

He urged parents to continuously play their role in their children’s lives, adding that investing in a child’s education is also investing in the future of the entire country.

“Education is the most powerful resource we can give our children, and our commitment is to ensure they receive it in the best possible environment. However, the future we are building belongs to all of us. When parents stand with us, investing their full efforts in their children’s growth, they are not simply securing a personal future, but actively investing in the enduring prosperity of the entire country.”— Mr. Albert Musabyimana, Founder of Peace and Hope Initiative.

At the Peace and Hope Initiative, our work is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: every child, regardless of their background, deserves access to quality education and the opportunity to build a better future.

Founded in 2012 by genocide survivor Albert Musabyimana, the initiative was created in response to the realities faced by vulnerable children in the Kinyinya Sector of Kigali — many of whom come from families affected by historical exclusion, poverty, and the long-term impact of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

What began as a small effort supporting 78 children from child-headed households has grown into the Peace and Hope Academy, now providing education and psychosocial support to more than 400 children.

Over the years, the initiative has demonstrated that targeted, community-based education can deliver strong and consistent outcomes. In both the last three academic years, 100% of students from Peace and Hope Academy successfully passed the national primary leaving examinations, achieving top performance compared to surrounding schools. Beyond academic success, the initiative has supported students in progressing to secondary education, helping to break cycles of vulnerability and expand long-term opportunities.

Education is at the core of our work, but lasting impact requires a broader, integrated approach. Through partnerships and community engagement, the initiative has contributed to improved access to clean water for over 300 families, employment opportunities for youth, and economic empowerment for vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities. This holistic model strengthens not only individual outcomes, but also the resilience and wellbeing of the wider community.

As the impact of the initiative continues to grow, so does the demand for access. Currently, more than 200 vulnerable children remain on a waiting list, unable to enroll due to limited infrastructure and classroom space. This gap highlights both the urgency of the need and the trust that the community places in the initiative.

To respond to this growing demand, the Peace and Hope Initiative has developed a strategic expansion plan: the construction of a modern model school that will increase capacity to serve over 1,000 children by 2030. Land for the expansion has already been secured, demonstrating a strong commitment to growth and long-term impact. The next phase will focus on building additional classrooms, strengthening infrastructure, and recruiting qualified teachers to ensure quality education at scale.

As the initiative enters this next phase, it represents more than a local education project. It is a proven, community-driven model with the potential to deliver scalable impact in education, resilience, and youth empowerment. Through collaboration with partners and stakeholders, the Peace and Hope Initiative aims to expand its reach and continue building pathways for vulnerable children to access quality education and a brighter future.

Peace and Hope Academy, located in Kinyinya sector in Gasabo District, is gaining popularity among parents for its commitment to supporting students from low-income families. Founded by Mr. Albert Musabyimana in 2012, the school aims to provide quality education to all children, regardless of their background or financial situation.

With a current enrollment of 350 students, Peace and Hope Academy is facing challenges due to limited space. Musabyimana is working towards expanding the school’s capacity to accommodate more students and improve the quality of education provided.

Despite charging low fees, and even offering free education to some students, the school has seen success in State Examinations, with two batches of 43 students graduating between 2022 and 2024. Notably, the school has a high number of female graduates, aligning with its goal of promoting girls’ education.

Looking towards the future, Musabyimana hopes to increase enrollment to 1000 students by 2030, focusing on providing opportunities for children from low-income families. However, the school currently faces challenges in finding adequate space for all children seeking to enroll.

As Peace and Hope Academy continues to make a difference in the lives of students in Gasabo District, the support and resources needed to expand its reach and impact are crucial for achieving its mission of providing quality education to all.

In Kinyinya Sector, Gasabo District, there is a beacon of hope for the children of the community – the Peace and Hope Academy. Founded with the mission to provide quality education to disadvantaged children, the school has been a sanctuary for those seeking knowledge and a brighter future.

Over the years, the school has seen a surge in student enrollment, a testament to the impact it has had on the lives of the children in the community. However, this success has also brought about a new challenge – the need for more space to accommodate the growing number of students.

With great excitement, the school has acquired a new plot near its existing premises to build additional classrooms and facilities. This expansion will not only allow more children to benefit from the school’s programs but also create a nurturing environment for them to learn and grow.

To make this dream a reality, the school is reaching out to donors and partners who believe in the power of education to transform lives. By supporting the school’s efforts to build a better future for these children, donors can make a lasting impact on the community and help shape the next generation of leaders.

The school’s current capacity stands at 300 children per year, but they are projecting to accommodate 1000 children with the expansion. This will allow more disadvantaged children in the community to access quality education and have a chance for a better future.

Join us in building dreams at the Peace and Hope Academy. Together, we can provide children with the tools they need to succeed and thrive, creating a brighter tomorrow for all.
